{"id":22438,"date":"2023-08-07T21:02:39","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T02:02:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lawrenceperson.com\/?p=22438"},"modified":"2023-08-07T21:41:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-08T02:41:23","slug":"william-friedkin-rip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lawrenceperson.com\/?p=22438","title":{"rendered":"William Friedkin, RIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No director probably <i>ever<\/i> had three films back to back as good as William Friedkin (who just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/william-friedkin-dead-french-connection-exorcist-1235557801\/\">died at age 87<\/a>) did in the 1970s. <b>The French Connection<\/b>, <b>The Exorcist<\/b> and <b>Sorcerer<\/b> are each truly great films that stand the test of time. The first two made a ton of money (justifiably). The third one didn&#8217;t, but has one of the greatest, tensest scenes of all time. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ET_MnC_pFPs\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Friedkin let the success of those first two go to his heads, and then a string of flops (including <b>Cruising<\/b>, a film that, like <b>The Last Temptation of Christ<\/b>, alienated its only potential audience) put him out of favor in Hollywood. <\/p>\n<p>He also directed a pretty swell episode of the 1980s <i>Twilight Zone<\/i> reboot.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CfGT4kzTevI\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He had a wealth of talent, I just wish we had more first rate films from him. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No director probably ever had three films back to back as good as William Friedkin (who just died at age 87) did in the 1970s.
