About Lawrence Person

Lawrence Person is a science fiction writer living in Austin, Texas. His short fiction has appeared in Asimov's, Analog, Postscripts, Jim Baen's Universe, Fear, and several anthologies. He also edits the Hugo-nominated SF critical magazine Nova Express, and runs the Turkey City Writer's Workshop. His non-fiction has appeared in National Review, Reason, Whole Earth Review, The Freeman, The World & I, Science Fiction Eye, The New York Review of Science Fiction, and Slashdot.org. He owns such a large library (mostly science fiction first editions) he had to buy a two-story house to put it in, and then adopted a golden retriever to drag him out of his house on a regular basis. He also makes a mean batch of salsa.

Library Addition: Four Robert E. Howard Limited Editions

I’ve already picked up the most important of Howard’s early work, including the five Gnome Press Conan books he wrote solo (the “posthumous collaboration” volumes are way down the list to pick up) and the three Arkham House books. (I … Continue reading →

I’ve been winning a fair number of Arkham House auctions recently, though this is one I bought off a fellow Biblio dealer. The last time I looked, nice copies of this were going for well over a grand and out … Continue reading →

Keeping the creepy crawly theme from yesterday going, here’s a video of a wasp and hornet expert removing a yellow-jacket nest from a wall in a woman’s basement. A really, really, really big nest. If that doesn’t freak you out … Continue reading →

Library Addition: Urish’s Hoard: The Guide to Elric Collectables

I read about this on a Michael Moorcock group on Facebook, and went “Why yes, this is relevant to my interests!” (Moorcock, Michael) Kirkland, James. Urish’s Hoard. Dreaming City Books, 2021. First edition? (no printing indicated, and it may well … Continue reading →

Halloween Horrors: National Museum of Funeral History in Houston

This should be a Halloween non-horror, as this actually looks like a pretty cool place to visit: The museum is open seven days a week at 415 Barren Springs Dr, Houston, TX 77090.

Library Addition: Lyle H. Wright’s American Fiction 1774 – 1850

I have a lot of science fiction reference works and bibliographies, but fewer general bibliographies. The following was something I’d seen Lloyd Currey reference for many older books, and I thought I should pick up a copy, especially since I … Continue reading →

Library Additions: Six Signed Ray Bradbury Firsts

Someone had a lot of eleven Ray Bradbury firsts listed on eBay for $420, and accepted a $300 offer. These are the ones going into my library (two replacing unsigned copies), the rest will be offered for sale in the … Continue reading →

Library Addition: First Edition of Robert A. Heinlein’s Rocket Ship Galileo

I am slowly gathering a complete collection of Robert A. Heinlein first editions. Rocket Ship Galileo, his very first, was one that got too expensive for me to pick up for a long time, and all that were listed online … Continue reading →
