About Lawrence Person

Lawrence Person is a science fiction writer living in Austin, Texas. His short fiction has appeared in Asimov's, Analog, Postscripts, Jim Baen's Universe, Fear, and several anthologies. He also edits the Hugo-nominated SF critical magazine Nova Express, and runs the Turkey City Writer's Workshop. His non-fiction has appeared in National Review, Reason, Whole Earth Review, The Freeman, The World & I, Science Fiction Eye, The New York Review of Science Fiction, and Slashdot.org. He owns such a large library (mostly science fiction first editions) he had to buy a two-story house to put it in, and then adopted a golden retriever to drag him out of his house on a regular basis. He also makes a mean batch of salsa.

Shoegazer Sunday: The Emerald Down’s “Caught A Wave”

It’s been many a moon since I featured The Emerald Down, and “Caught A Wave” sounds an awful lot like some early Slowdive songs (like “Shine”), a dreamy, buzzy, steady-state sort of Shoegaze, maybe with a little Ride and My … Continue reading →

The Eternals Trailer: Super-Meh

The trailer for Marvel’s The Eternals dropped: It’s so lackluster I have to use a meme from the competing DC universe: There’s nothing there that grabbed me. And I’m a guy who’s seen almost all of the MCU films. The … Continue reading →

Shoegazer Sunday: Is Bliss’ “Belong”

Is Bliss hails from Portsmouth, UK. “Belong,” off their album Strange Communication sounds like a cross between something from the noisy, heavy guitar end of Shoegaze (like Civic) and Gentlemen-era Afghan Whigs, a band I probably hadn’t thought of in … Continue reading →
