Tuesday, July 4th, 2017Shoegazer Sunday: De Montevert “Its alright I’m probably dreaming”
Sunday, July 2nd, 2017This is more Dreampop than Shoegaze, but it’s pretty, so here it is.
I’m guessing De Montevert hails from Sweden, based on email addresses and umlauts.
Shoegazer Sunday: Pie Are Squared’s “36 Degrees on a Saturday”
Sunday, June 25th, 2017To be honest, this isn’t so much a Shoegaze band as a single guitarist showing how to do shoegaze and performing all the parts himself via mixing, loops and digital Frippitronics.
Shoegazer Sunday: The Octopus Project’s “Sharpteeth”
Sunday, June 18th, 2017How did I miss The Octopus Project until now? You would think an Austin band with a female theremin player would be right up my alley…
Adam West, RIP
Saturday, June 10th, 2017Adam West, star of the 1960s TV Batman and later a voice actor playing a lunatic version of himself as Mayor Adam West on Family Guy, has died at age 88.
Though far from my favorite version of the character, the TV Batman was silly fun.
Mainly this post is just an excuse to throw up a few random videos:
Shoegazer Sunday: Yellow Fang’s “Selfish”
Sunday, June 4th, 2017Been a while since we did some Asian Shoegaze, so here’s Thailand’s Yellow Fang with “Selfish.”
Shoegazer Sunday: Slowdive’s “Slomo” and “Catch the Breeze” Live
Sunday, May 21st, 2017I’ve been on a Slowdive kick since I heard the new album has coming out, and it way exceeded my expectations for it.
Here’s a live performance for Pitchfork that features both new and old songs, including “Slomo,” “Catch the Breeze” “Slowdive,” “Star Roving” and “Avalyn.” For some reason the music doesn’t actually start until 7:15 into the video.
Shoegazer Sunday: Slowdive’s “No Longer Making Time”
Sunday, May 7th, 2017Slowdive’s new self-titled album
Buy it.
Here’s a live version of “No Longer Making Time,” one of the new tracks:
The studio version is even prettier.
I’m watching new episodes of MST3K and listening to a new Slowdive album. I’ve obviously died and gone to 1990s Heaven…
Shoegazer Sunday: The Black Ryder’s “Seventh Moon”
Sunday, April 30th, 2017The breathy vocals of Aimee Nash, half of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Australia duo The Black Ryder, merit obvious comparison to Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. Here they are with “Seventh Moon,” which reminds me a bit of SPC ECO’s “Tweet Fields at Night” and is about 97% pure beauty by weight.
