I’m watching new episodes of MST3K and listening to a new Slowdive album. I’ve obviously died and gone to 1990s Heaven…
The breathy vocals of Aimee Nash, half of Los Angeles-by-way-of-Australia duo The Black Ryder, merit obvious comparison to Mazzy Star’s Hope Sandoval. Here they are with “Seventh Moon,” which reminds me a bit of SPC ECO’s “Tweet Fields at Night” and is about 97% pure beauty by weight.

The video is not particularly interesting. However, this cinéma vérité black and white piece following a trio of skateboarders at night is really nice.
Slowdive’s new, self-titled album, their first in two decades, is due out May 5. “Sugar for the Pill” is the second preview cut off that album (following “Star Roving“).
BBC is evidently rebooting Top Gear now that Clarkson, May and Hammond have departed for The Grand Tour, so they hired Colin Furze to “build something fast for the Stig.”
That “something” turned out to be the world’s fastest bumper car:
I was already inclined to like Minor Victories based on the presence of Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell. And then “Scattered Ashes (song for Richard)” is not only a swell song in its own right, but has video that punches all the Internet’s meme buttons at once.
I KAN HAZ SHOEGAZE?
In Vietnam, they had an elaborate premiere for the opening of Kong: Skull Island, with fire dancers and a large mock-up of King Kong.
Pro-tip: Try not to let your fire dancers get too close to your giant flammable King Kong facade.
They didn’t follow that guideline.
