For your Sunday dose of Shoegaze, here’s Australia’s Lapse with “Padded Cell” off their debut EP.
Sunday Shoegazer: Lapse’s “Padded Cell”
March 26th, 2017Library Addition: Hannu Rajaniemi’s The Quantum Thief
March 20th, 2017Here’s a book I found out about too late to pick up before prices went through the stratosphere, so I went ahead and settled (for now) for an Ex-Library first I could afford:
Rajaniemi, Hannu. The Quantum Thief. Gollancz, 2010. First edition hardback, an Ex-Library copy with pocket and stamps, in a Fine-, protected dust jacket with a bit of curl at head. Presents well. Bought off eBay for £19.99 plus shipping.
Shoegazer Sunday: Ride’s “Home is a Feeling”
March 19th, 2017The Shoegaze revival seems to be in full bloom, with classic Shoegaze band Ride coming out with a new album this summer. “Home is a Feeling” is an early track off it, and comes down firmly on the hazy/blissful side of Shoegaze.
Shoegazer Sunday: Minor Victories’ “Scattered Ashes (song for Richard)”
March 12th, 2017I was already inclined to like Minor Victories based on the presence of Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell. And then “Scattered Ashes (song for Richard)” is not only a swell song in its own right, but has video that punches all the Internet’s meme buttons at once.
I KAN HAZ SHOEGAZE?
King Kong Burns
March 10th, 2017In Vietnam, they had an elaborate premiere for the opening of Kong: Skull Island, with fire dancers and a large mock-up of King Kong.
Pro-tip: Try not to let your fire dancers get too close to your giant flammable King Kong facade.
They didn’t follow that guideline.
(Edited to add: There were originally two videos here, but the first video removed from YouTube, so I deleted that. Skip to about 3:45 into this one to see things start to go wrong.)
Shoegazer Sunday: Tears Run Rings’ “A Question and an Answer”
March 5th, 2017Been a while since I featured tears Run Rings, so here’s “A Question and an Answer”:
Shoegazer Sunday: Presents for Sally’s “There’s No Other Place”
February 26th, 2017UK-based Presents for Sally is another St. Marie Records band, and here’s a piece from the Static Waves 4 sampler.
Austin Restaurant Notes
February 22nd, 2017The Logbook of the Saturday Dining Conspiracy, the redheaded stepchild of the Dwight and Lawrence blogging empire, has shambled back to life this months with two bits of news:
You might want to take a look if you like dining in Austin.
Sunday Shoegazer: Center of the Sun’s “Cease”
February 19th, 2017We last featured Center of the Sun for their cover of Slowdive’s “Machine Gun”, but their only album, Machine Gun (which, ironically, doesn’t contain the Slowdive cover) is well worth picking up, and “Cease” is off that.
Shoegazer Sunday: Blankenberge’s “Feel Alive”
February 12th, 2017For your Sunday dose of Shoegaze, here’s Russia’s Blankenberg with “Feel Alive,” which reminds me a little bit of The Cherry Wave (i.e. a noise floor above which floats the melody).
