Darker My love shows up on the Every Noise at Once Shoegaze map. And even though “Two Ways Out” sounds pretty close to straight pop, there’s just enough reverb and treatment on the guitar line for me to include it here.

Shoegazer Sunday: Darker My Love’s “Two Ways Out”
Sunday, March 20th, 2016Keith Emerson, RIP
Friday, March 11th, 2016Keith Emerson, the keyboardist for Emerson, Lake and Palmer, has died at age 71.
Along with Rick Wakeman and Tony Banks, Emerson was one of the great progressive rock keyboardists, and was one of the first players brave (or foolhardy) enough to take the massive, temperamental modular Moog synthesizer on the road.
(Note the shout-out to everyone’s favorite rock documentary…)
Here’s more on Emerson’s modular Moog for the analog hardcore:
Their song “Lucky Man” ends with Emerson’s classic Moog solo:
Here he is doing “America” from West Side Story on David Letterman:
In 2011, Emerson actually let keyboardist Rachel Flowers borrow his modular Moog to play a cover of ELP’s “Trilogy”:
Another Speed Downhill Mountain Bike Run
Monday, February 29th, 2016I know these things are basically “Hey, how’d you like to expose yourself to the possibility of catastrophic injury for the greater glory of Red Bull and Go-Pro?” but I’m always impressed with these downhill speed-runs where they basically clear out half the population of some steeply graded city in South America for some nervy bicycling lunatic to careen down streets, stairs, sidewalks and goat-paths at a breakneck pace for our amusement.
Kickstarter for the Sequel to Manos: The Hands of Fate
Thursday, February 25th, 2016I know that many of you (and by “many” I mean “five or six of you”) come here for news of Manos: The Hands of Fate). (And yes, I have the restored Blu-Ray of the original Manos, but I haven’t watched it yet.) So here’s some news about the sequel:
The previously announced sequel, The Search for Valley Lodge, officially died back in 2014.
However, and entirely new sequel is being put together by Jackey Neyman Jones (the little girl in the original film) and their Kickstarter just made it’s $24,000 goal. They even have Tom Neyman back as The Master!
If you think there’s too much puppet action (from Manos: The Hands of Felt) in the Kickstarter trailer, here’s a shorter trailer:
$24,000 isn’t much for a feature film. Then again, the original Manos: The Hands of Fate wasn’t much of a feature film…
Shoegazer Sunday: Rancho Relaxo’s “Stars”

Phenomenal Remix of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”
Friday, February 12th, 2016Trent Reznor has been offering the individual tracks of his music for other people to remix for a while now. I stumbled across this truly awesome Andrej Prebanda remix of “Hurt” on YouTube:
Yeah, I like the Johnny Cash version as well.
Shoegazer Sunday: Vidulgi OoyoO’s “Infinity”
Sunday, February 7th, 2016Korean psychgazer band Vidulgi OoyoO’s “Infinity” is one of those songs that starts slow and keeps building on the same basic groove, a bit like Lemon’s Chair, though Vidulgi OoyoO has a harder and faster edge.

Sunday Shoegazer: Blackstone Rngrs’ “Frozen Echo”
Sunday, January 24th, 2016For your Sunday dose of Shoegaze, here’s Austin’s own Blackstone Rngrs (yes, they spell it that way), another Saint Marie Records band, with “Frozen Echo,” another entry in the “Hey, we have no video budget, so how many digital effects can we cram in” sweepstakes.
Korean Girls Try American BBQ
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016Here’s the sort of cross-cultural appreciation I can get behind:
A tad long, but worth watching. Especially since they save the brisket and pork ribs until the end…
Interview With Spinal Tap Manager Ian Faith
Sunday, January 17th, 2016Here’s a modestly amusing link for a cold Sunday morning, a video interview with Spinal Tap manager Ian Faith on faking his own death, why “Big Bottom” is better than “Stonehenge,” and who he could make a lot of money off of were they to die.
Keep you expectations modest…
