This Kickstarter from 2024 finally came in.

First edition hardback graphic novel, a Fine copy in decorated boards, sans dust jacket, as issued, with three cards laid in. Just what the title says, the latest graphic novel featuring dogged investigative reporter of the supernatural Carl Kolchak. Brought to you by the same people who previously brought you the 50th anniversary edition graphic novel compilation and the first hardback edition of the original Jeff Rice Night Stalker novel. Bought from the Kickstarter for $32.

MST3K With Rifftrax Crew Kickstarter

Well, this is some news.

Something colossal is happening in the not-too-distant future — Mystery Science Theater 3000: The RiffTrax Experiments! For the past two decades, we’ve been serving up fresh movie riffs as RiffTrax, but in celebration of our 20th anniversary this year, we’re going back to where it all began.

We’re thrilled to announce that for 2026, in partnership with Shout! Studios, we will be making FOUR brand-new episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000! Mike Nelson is returning as host, alongside Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett as his robot friends Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot.

The entire production will take place this spring/summer in Minnesota with Mike, Kevin, and Bill as creative leads. We’ll be building all-new, hand-crafted sets and props. And the hilarious MST3K host segments WILL, of course, be back! We plan to release all four episodes by the end of 2026.

I’m assuming this is a direct result of Shout factory buying out Joel Hodgson’s share in MST3K.

Well, people have been asking for the original cast back since the first reboot, and now they’re getting it (though I think many have preferred Dr. Forrester and TV’s Frank involved).

I would totally back this is I weren’t broke.

Library Addition: The Gentleman from Angell Street hardback (Lovecraft)

Here’s a Kickstarter I backed all the way back in March of 2024 that finally came in.

(Lovecraft, H.P.) Eddy, Muriel E. & C.M. The Gentleman from Angell Street. Helios House Press, 2025. Third edition, first hardback and first thus, a greatly expanded version of the Fenham Publishing trade paperback of 2001 (which I also have), a Fine copy, sans dust jacket, as issued. Biographical memoir of Lovecraft by two of his neighbors, now filled out with information gleaned from unearthed correspondence. Backed on Kickstarter for $65.

Game Library Addition: Monty Python’s Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme

I did a fair amount of wargaming in my youth, but have done piratically none since graduating college. Still, every now and then a boardgaming Kickstarter strikes my fancy, as this one, vaguely based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail and first announced back in 2022, did. I think this is the first game I’ve bought since the designer edition of Ogre.

Monty Python’s Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme. Exalted Funeral, 2025. This has numerous components:

  • The “Public School Edition” of the main game book

  • Head of Light Entertainment Gamemaster Screen with 18 HoLE cards

  • A Head of Light Entertainment sash
  • Two “Black Beast” Nesting Box Dice Sets

  • Meeple Set
  • Bag of tokens
  • Coconut dice roller

  • Fetchez la Vache! boardgame feature catapults and cows. This was an add-on. It’s too big to fit on the scanner, so here’s an image I stole from the Kickstarter page:

  • All components are Fine/New, still in shrinkwrap or bag.

    Bought for $250 back in 2022, but only shipped this year.

    The Cyanide and Happiness book was a 2023 Kickstarter, while the Kolchak book was an add-on to the 2024 Kolchak Meets the Classic Monsters Kickstarter, the primary reward of which hasn’t been sent out yet.

  • Monson, Joe, editor. The Horror at Pooh Corner. Hemelein Publications, 2024. First edition hardback, #82 of 100 numbered hardbacks signed by the editor and with a bookplate signed by the contributors laid in, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket, with no less than three bookmarks laid in. Horror stories in Winnie-the-Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood, following the lapse of the copyright in 2022.

  • (Wolfe, Gene). Cano, Ramon Perales, editor. The Book of Fuligin. Strangers Publishing, no date (2024). First edition hardback graphic novel, a Fine copy, sans dust jacket, as issued. Slightly oversize (10 1/2″ high) graphic novel anthology of stories set in Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun milieu.

  • Crowley, John. The Sixties: A Forged Diary. Ninpin Press, 2024. First edition trade paperback original, a Fine copy. A reconstruction of Crowley’s life in New York City in the 60s. “After taking a job with a photography studio, he soon crosses paths with the likes of Andy Warhol and Richard Avedon, Claudia Cardinale and Raquel Welch.” 8″ tall by 6″ wide.
  • Crowley, John. Two Chapters in a Family Chronicle. Ninpin Press, 2024. First edition trade paperback original, a Fine copy. Two stories, “Percy and Lulu Go to Vermont” and “Poker Night at the Elks Club 1938” that “link three generations of John Crowley’s family.” 7″ tall by 5″ wide.

    Four more items for the Lansdale collection, three by Joe R. Hisownself, one an anthology he’s in.

  • Aquilone, James, editor. Dead Detectives Society. Monsterous Books, 2023. First edition trade paperback original, a Fine copy, with extras bag including three cardstock illustrations and a Dead Detective’s Society Membership card. Includes stories by Joe and Kasey Lansdale, Nancy Collins, Kevin J. Anderson, etc. Bought off Kickstarter for $32.

  • Lansdale, Joe R. (as Ray Slater). Texas Night Riders. leisure, 1983. First edition paperback original, a Fine- copy with tiny loss at very tip of top rear outer corner and some foxing to inside covers, otherwise tight, square and apparently unread. This is far and away the best copy I’ve ever seen. Supplements a less attractive copy of the PBO inscribed to me, the Chivers Press large print (and first hardback edition) inscribed to me, and both the lettered and numbered editions of the Subterranean signed/limited edition. Isajenko, A003.a. Bought for $40 from Half Price Books.

  • Lansdale, Joe R. (illustrated by Ted DiLucia). Incident On and Off a Mountain Road. Crystal Lake Publishing, 2023. First edition hardback (“10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1” numberline), a Fine copy in decorated boards, sans dust jacket, as issued. Illustrated version of the dark suspense novelette originally published in Night Visions 8 and later adapted as an episode of the Showtime Masters of Horror TV anthology series. Amazon seems to be the main fulfillment avenue for this book, so I provided an Amazon link above.

  • Lansdale, Joe R. and Keith Lansdale. Prisoner of Violence. Dark Regions Press, 2023. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in decorated boards, sans dust jacket, as issued, into which I’ve laid a signature plate by Joe and Keith Lansdale. Graphic novel that was announced several years ago, but only recently came out. I have copies of this available through Lame Excuse Books.

  • MST3K’s 14th Season Fundraiser Going Slow

    You may have noticed that Joel Hodgson and MST3K gang are having a new kickstarter for the next season (for values of “kickstarter” that include “not on the Kickstarter platform”). There are five days left and they are only 38% of the way to the first goal of $4.8 million, which will be six features and six shorts.

    The last two Kickstarters they had blew past their goals.

    This one? Not so much. Despite announcing that Plan 9 from Outer Space will be among the riffed films.

    Donor fatigue? The Biden Recession? Not doing enough promotion? Not enough boost from a non-Kickstarter platform? Disgruntlement over how long it took people to get their promised rewards from the last campaign?

    I think it may be some combination of all the above.

    Maybe the usual Turkey Day festivities will kick it into higher gear. But if they don’t, this may be the first MST3K fundraising effort to fail.

Original anthology of Shakespeare-related horror stories, featuring stories from Joe and Kasey Lansdale, Steve Rasnick Tem, etc. Adding up the various hardware bundles, it looks like there were just over 500 copies of this done. My name can be found on page 356. You can buy the book through Amazon, though no guarantee that you’ll get a first printing, or received it unbumped.
