Library Additions: Two Signed Graphic Novels

Tuesday, February 16th, 2021

I picked up two signed hardback graphic novels on eBay:

  • Ellison, Harlan, and Ken Steacy. Night and the Enemy. Graphetti Designs, 1987. First edition hardback graphic novel, #743 of 1,500 signed, numbered copies, a Fine- copy with slight bumping of bottom points in a Fine- translucent printed Mylar dust jacket with a few tiny indentations. Set in Ellison’s Earth-Kyba War universe. Bought off eBay for $30.
  • Hill, Joe (with Jason Ciaramella and Vic Malhotra). Thumbprint. IDW, 2013. First edition, a Fine copy in decorated boards, sans dust jacket, as issued, signed by Hill. Based on the Hill novella. Bought off eBay for $30.

  • Library Additions: Three Signed Ray Bradbury Firsts

    Monday, August 17th, 2020

The signed Ray Bradbury buying spree continues apace, all bought off eBay:

  • Bradbury, Ray. Forever and the Earth. Croissant & Company, 1984. First edition hardback, #20 of 300 signed, numbered copies, a Fine copy in a glassine dust wrapper, as issued. Script for a radio dramatization. Bought for $50.

  • Bradbury, Ray. A Chapbook for Burnt-Out Priests, Rabbis and Ministers. Cemetery Dance, 2001. First edition hardback, a PC copy of 350 signed and numbered copies, a Fine copy save a dime-sized spot of discoloration on front free endpaper (possibly a paper flaw), in a Fine dust jacket and a Fine slipcase. Mixture of prose and poetry. Supplements a trade copy. Bought for $29.99.
  • Bradbury, Ray. The Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 4. Byron Preiss Visual Publications, 1993. First edition hardback, #548 of 1,000 signed, numbered copies, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket. Bought for $35. I now lack only volumes 1, 3 and 5. Weist, Ray Bradbury: An Illustrated Life, page 183.
  • Library Additions: Three Signed Joe Hill Firsts

    Saturday, December 21st, 2019

Three signed Joe Hill firsts, all bought from different sources:

  • Hill, Joe. Full Throttle. HarperCollins, 2019. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket, limited edition issue with page signed by Hill bound in. Short story collection. Bought at Half Price Books (who sell new books now as well), with two store stickers (including publisher’s gold “Signed First Edition” sticker) for 20% off cover price. Irritatingly, both this limited edition and the trade edition below have the same ISBN.

  • Hill, Joe. Full Throttle. HarperCollins, 2019. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket, trade edition, signed by Hill. Note that the dust wrapper on both this and the limited above have a new type of material with a distinct texture (almost like a paper version of suede). Bought from a noted mystery bookseller for 20% off.
  • Hill, Joe and Gabriel Rodriguez. Locke & Key 4: Keys to the Kingdom. Subterranean/IDW, 2019. First limited edition hardback, #159 of 250 signed/numbered copies, a Fine copy in a Fine slipcase, new and unread. The latest collected signed/limited volume of the acclaimed dark fantasy/horror graphic novel series. The IDW edition came out many years back, but as with the other Subterranean volumes, this includes additional material, including the full comic scripts. Bought from the publisher with a dealer discount.

  • Note that I have copies of all three of these available through Lame Excuse Books.

Library Additions: Two Hardback Graphic Novel Firsts

    Thursday, December 19th, 2019

One of these I managed to miss when it came out, and the other I backed a Kickstarter for back in January.

  • (Dick, Philip K.) Paul de Coudray and Elizabeth Haidle. The Pipers. Mascot Press, 2019. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in decorated boards, sans dust jacket, as issued. Graphic novel adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story of the same name. Backed on Kickstarter for $24.

  • Krahulik, Mike, and Jerry Holkins. The Splendid Magic of Penny Arcade: The 11 1/2 Anniversary Edition. Del Rey, 2010. First edition hardback, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket. Retrospective “behind the scenes” collection of the gaming webcomic, which I somehow missed when it came out.
  • Library Addition: Signed/Limited Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 6

    Wednesday, May 15th, 2019

Another signed Bradbury, and another volume in this series.

Bradbury, Ray, et. al. Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 6. Nantier Beall Minoustchine/Byron Preiss, no date (but 1994). First edition hardback, #828 of 1000 signed, numbered copies signed by Bradbury and the illustrators, a Fine- copy with a bit of spine lean (only noticeable because the book is so thin), in a Fine dust jacket. Bought for $26.10 plus shipping off eBay. Original published price was $45.

I now have Volumes 2, 6 and 7 of this series, but am still looking for the others…

Library Addition: Signed/Limited Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 2

    Thursday, September 6th, 2018

Picked up another volume of this:

Bradbury, Ray (with Dave Gibbons, James Sherman, Daniel Torres, Raph Reese, Mark Charello, and Bernard Krigstein). The Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 2. Byron Preiss/NBM, 1992. First edition hardback graphic novel,#250 of 1200 signed, numbered copies, a Near Fine copy with trace of dampstaining to bottom boards (but not pages) in a Near Fine dust jacket with slight waviness at bottom and slight blindside dye transfer from boards, along with a few other traces of wear. Signed by Bradbury, Gibbons, Reese and Charello. Tempted to send it back, but the terse listing only said VG, so, eh, caveat emptor. Bought for $37 off eBay.

I now have Volumes 2 and 7 of this series, but am still looking for the others…

Library Additions: Two Signed Ray Bradbury Firsts

    Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018

Two signed Ray Bradbury firsts, thought a little off-beam from most of my Bradbury:

  • Bradbury, Ray (text). The Art of Playboy. Alfred van der Marck Editions, 1985. First edition hardback, a Fine- copy in a Fine- dust jacket with slight blunting to points and slight wear along bottom boards. Signed by Bradbury. Collection of art that appeared in Playboy magazine, something of who’s who of modern magazine illustration, including all the tasteful female nudes you’d expect, and the expected Vargas, Nagel, Olivia, etc., but also Frank Frazetta, Salvador Dali, Kinuko Craft, and a multitude of others. Bought off eBay for $38.77 plus shipping.

  • Bradbury, Ray (etc.). The Ray Bradbury Chronicles Volume 7. NMB/Byron Priess, 1993. First edition hardback, #304 of 100 numbered copies signed by Bradbury and several illustrators, etc., a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket. Graphic novel adaptation of several Bradbury short stories. Bought off eBay for $31.50 plus shipping.

  • Library Addition: Joe Lansdale’s Hap and Leonard: Savage Season Graphic Novel

    Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

Another small press Joe R. Lansdale item:

Lansdale, Joe R. and Jussi Piironen. Hap and Leonard: Savage Season. SST, 2017. First hardback and first limited edition, number 105 of 270 signed, numbered copies, a Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket, new and unread. Graphic novel adaptation of the first Hap and Leonard novel. The IDW trade paperback edition precedes.

I’ll have copies of this available in the next Lame Excuse Books catalog.
